As a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of our community’s heritage, the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society relies on contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations. When you donate to the Historical Society you will be joining those who share a common vision of the importance of heritage and the satisfaction of being a partner in the efforts to create a living history museum complex -- Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum.

Planned Giving at the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society
The Historical Society welcomes the opportunity to work with you through its planned giving program to provide for your financial security while helping to preserve and share our community’s history. You can contribute to our educational programs, important research projects and the preservation of the historical buildings. Planned gifts can provide significant tax advantages and generate income for you. Two income generating planned gifts are a charitable gift annuity and a charitable remainder trust.

By arranging a charitable gift annuity you can establish a gift annuity with the Historical Society and receive a fixed annual income. You are also entitled to a partial federal income tax deduction in the year of the donation, and a portion of each annual payment may be exempt from income taxes. A minimum of $10,000 is required. Establishing a charitable gift annuity will provide you with an income for life and result in a donation now to the Historical Society.

A Charitable Remainder Trust can be created for gifts of at least $100,000 in cash, securities or real estate. A trust may be established with a financial institution, or the Historical Society’s managing agent, that will generate a percentage of income based on the trust’s performance, revalued annually or with a fixed dollar amount. You receive a federal income tax deduction for the donation, adjusted for the estimated income expected. Creating a charitable reminder trust, either by a Trust or Will, will provide you or your loved ones with an income for life, with the balance left over to benefit the Historical Society.
